Captain Phillips' Star Barkhad Abdi Is Broke, But An Oscar Win Could Change All That
According to MSN, Abdi' was paid $65,000 for his role in the movie, which has earned $217 million worldwide at the box office, yet he still wears borrowed clothes.
Barkhad Abdi's breakout performance as Muse, a Somali pirate in the hit 2013 film Captain Phillips has earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. However, he's still struggling to make ends meet.

The 28-year old, whose family fled war torn Somalia for the United States when he was six, was working as a limo driver when he got word that Sony Pictures was looking for actors to work beside Tom Hanks in Captain Phillips, a movie based on a true story

Abdi not only landed the role, but was so convincing in his movie debut he won a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor and hopes to do the same at the 2014 Oscars on Sunday, March 2.
He'll be competing against Bradley Cooper (American Hustle), Michael Fassbender (12 Years a Slave), Jonah Hill (The Wolf of Wall Street) and Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club).

If he wins tonight Abdi plans on moving to Los Angeles full time. He's already reading scripts for new films.
