Lagos to Provide Loans for Technical College Graduates

Lagos plans to provide financial support to graduates.

The Deputy Governor of Lagos Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire at the 2014 Enterprise Day in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, said that the state government will provide loans for graduates of technical colleges that show interest in starting up businesses in Lagos.

She explained that the loans would be given to the graduates without any collateral .

“The loan will be processed through the Lagos State Micro Finance Institution, and forms will be provided for the graduates at their institutions.” Adefulire stated.

The Lagos State University students on Thursday stormed the office of Governor Babatunde Fashola at Alausa, Ikeja, and said they would not return home until their school fees were reduced and their arrested colleagues released unconditionally.

The students, who arrived at the office at about 3pm in over 10 buses, came along with mats, mosquito nets and cooking pots, among others.

To show their seriousness, the female students quickly swung into action, setting up firewoods to prepare beans near the entrance of the Governor’s Office.

The students also defied a downpour that threatened their demonstration, as they danced to solidarity songs and held mid-day prayers to seek divine intervention.

In a letter to Fashola, titled, ‘Save our future’, which was made available to PUNCH Metro, the students alleged that the tuition hike had taken education beyond their reach.

Sellers Of Fake Products Face Jail Term In Lagos

Manufacturers and sellers of fake products to consumers in Lagos State will now face a three-month jail term or pay a N500,000 fine or both on first conviction by a court in Lagos. This is the provision of the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency Bill signed by Governor Babatunde Fashola into law on Monday at the State House, Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

Section 37 (1) of the bill says that a person guilty of an offence under this law is liable on conviction to the following fines and penalties: (a) on a first conviction to a fine not exceeding N500,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months or both; and (b) on any subsequent conviction for the same offence or any other offence under this law, to a fine not exceeding N750,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six  months or both.
