Good News: “Borno School Girls Are Safe Kidnappers Seek Ransom

A hostage negotiator who is allegedly in contact with the Boko Haram kidnappers of the over 200 Borno school girls, has reportedly revealed that their safe release is “within reach,” and that the terrorists are demanding a ransom.

The negotiator, who allegedly spoke with Channel 4 News, stated that although the girls are safe at the moment, that could change if the military attempts to launch a rescue mission.

L.A. Clippers Owner Donald Sterling Banned For Life By The NBA, Fined$2.5 Million, Will Be Pressured To Sell Team

At a press conference held Tuesday, April 29, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced that Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has been banned for life from the NBA. He will not be allowed to attend games, practices or league sanctioned functions.

Additionally, Sterling has been fined the maximum amount of $2.5 million. He will also be pressured to sell the team.

Abducted Schoolgirls have Been Married Off @ N2000 & Moved Abroad" -Daily Trust

Most of the 234 Borno schoolgirls in Boko Haram captivity, according to a report onDailyTrust, have allegedly been ferried abroad to Chad and Cameroon after they were married off to sect members on N2,000 bride price each.

The female students were taken from their hostels at the Government Girls Secondary School Chibok on the night of April 14. About 40 had escaped in the days after the incident, but parents and school authorities said at least 234 of them were yet to be found....

Nigerian Censors Board Bans Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s “Half of A Yellow Sun” Movie

According to reports, The Nigeria Film and Video Censorship Board, (NFVCB),has banned the widely publicized and internationally acclaimed film, “Half of A Yellow Sun” which has been premiered in Nigeria.

Reliable sources disclosed that the film was banned because it somehow promotes Biafra, as it was mentioned repeatedly in the movie, though promoters are making frantic efforts to remove the offensive sections and get the film approved.

Sources said that the film, an adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel is being stopped from getting into the market due to parts that tend to whip up tribal sentiments, especially on issues that led to the Nigerian civil war.

The filmmaker further revealed that, “with the Boko Haram insurgency and the Adamawa State governor’s outburst, the NFVCB is living up to its billing.”

Half of a Yellow Sun is a 2013 Nigerian drama film directed by Biyi Bandele and based on the novel of Adichie. The film is a love story that follows two sisters who are caught up in the outbreak of the Nigerian Civil War and stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Onyeka Onwenu, Genevieve Nnaji and OC Ukeje. 

Diamond Bank Extends Alex Otti’s Tenure, Appoints Two Deputy MDs

The Board of Directors of Diamond Bank Plc has announced the extension of the tenure of its Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Alex Otti, for another three years with effect from March 2014.

It also announced the appointment of Caroline Anyanwu and Uzoma Dozie, who are both executive directors at the bank, as deputy managing directors.

This is the first time the bank will be appointing deputy managing directors since it was established about 23 years ago.

In addition, the bank promoted 458 other members of staff across the bank, following the conclusion of staff performance evaluation for 2013.

Abuja Is Safe, Jonathan Assures World Economic Forum

President Goodluck  Jonathan Thursday reassured the global community of the safety of all participants in next month’s World Economic Forum on Africa in Abuja.

The president spoke when he had an audience with China’s new Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Gu Xiaojie who presented his letters of credence to him at the Presidential Villa.

According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, Jonathan said the security challenges being experienced in parts of the country will have no adverse effect on the safety of participants in the forum.

Borno Women Express Readiness to Move into Sambisa Forest in Search of Missing Schoolgirls

Women in Borno state have expressed their willingness to go into the notorious Sambisa Game Reserve Forest, the enclave of the outlawed Boko Haram sect, to seek the release of the abducted schoolgirls of the Government Secondary School, Chibok.

Sambisa Forest, a large expanse of land is where most of the deadly attacks of the Boko Haram insurgency are launched from and it is where the abducted schoolgirls are believed to be held hostage.

Reports started emerging on Monday afternoon that Moyes was set to be axed - some 16 hours before he was informed at a meeting with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward on Tuesday morning that his contract was being terminated.

Manchester United have been accused of turning themselves into a laughing stock with their handling of David Moyes' departure.

Moyes' nine-month reign at Old Trafford came to an end on Tuesday when he was sacked following a meeting at 8am with vice-chairman Ed Woodward at Carrington.

The dismissal did not come as a surprise as many national media outlets reported on Monday afternoon that Moyes was to be dismissed.
